Unless you want to ccathy more sane by comparing yourself to this protagonist, but seriously, this is one of those highly tabooed, epitome-of-fucked-up kinda books Innocents, what misleadingly simple title It was odd though, that the author never mentioned the names of the two of them.
But, that just goes to show the power of Coote’s writing.
Don’t have a Kindle? Cathy Coote tried to describe the insides and horrors of being a pedophile. To be frank, I caathy loathed the narrator. Her brazen honesty is shocking through the book and at times difficult to deal with, as she vividly describes her calculated thoughts and the sexual acts that happen between them.

That was kinda interesting I suppose, but then I started getting really freaked out when I could sympathise with her. The story is written as a letter from the nameless, orphaned year-old Catholic schoolgirl to her year-old lover reviewing their affair and its consequences. Her claim of its depravity and abnormality felt even more overdramatic and pathetic than the scenes of her nausea that followed. Innocents is probably one of the most complicated,intense and disturbing book I’ve ever read.
I enjoyed it immensely though, and could easily read it again. I had thought there could be no pleasure more exquisite than that of seducing a shy man. I got through the first chapter, or part, or whatever it was, okay. It’s a very literary book. Biting my lip, making my face tentative, I asked out of the blue, ‘Will you kiss me? Obviously, I braced myself for some pretty dark taboos inmocents of the description and the quick skims of reviews but damn if Coote didn’t take dark to a whole new level!
The plot is simple: This was written in a way most people wouldn’t understand. Well- because it left a horrible taste in my mouth and made me sick to my stomach at some points.
