Controller Area Network CAN standards cover the CAN bus, designed and implemented to allow different components within a vehicle to communicate with each other without needing a host computer. As a textbook example of interoperability, standardization is critical to the functioning of the system as a whole, especially with the consideration that not all the cooperating parts will be made by the same manufacturer.
